About Us
Canadians for Indian Democracy (CID) is a registered Not for Profit corporation, our programs and interventions are aimed to achieve the following goals -

  • Create secular, democratic platforms that will bring individuals and organizations together to build intersectional solidarity for social justice and democratic rights in India
  • Build and engage a network of like-minded individuals and organizations across Canada.
  • Promote and work towards UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
  • Celebrate and promote the plurality of ideas and identities of India in Canada

In the past decade, there have been deliberate and calculated attempts to erase and silence diverse identities within the Indian diaspora in Canada and globally. Canadians for Indian Democracy (CID) was formed to resist attempts to enforce Indian identity as a singular religious and cultural identity. We recognize and acknowledge the diaspora’s diversity and proactively work to amplify and celebrate the diverse ideas and identities in terms of race, caste, gender, religion, and language.

We uphold the ethos of ‘Unity in Diversity’.

As a facilitator, CID will work to expand the network and intersectional solidarity among civil society and advocate to influence community and government policies to bring positive change and help peace and security in Canada and India.

In Canada, CID also focuses on new immigrants, students and anti-racist campaigns. We champion the cause of the Indian diaspora as a multi-faith and inclusive community.
