Community Outreach Initiatives
Our Community Outreach Programs are dedicated to identifying and connecting with the diverse Indian communities in Canada, organized around regional, linguistic, and cultural identities. We aim to unite these communities to lead social justice projects and raise awareness about India’s rich pluralistic and multicultural heritage. By fostering a network of liberal and progressive individuals, we explore possibilities for collaboration in community-building events, art-based interventions, and other initiatives that celebrate and strengthen our shared values.
The Policy Advocacy Unit focuses on representing the Indian diaspora in Canada by organizing delegations to engage with Canadian governments and legislatures. We also launch signature and media campaigns on critical issues, including human rights violations and threats to democracy. In addition, our advocacy efforts involve collaboration with international organizations to address sector-specific concerns, ensuring that the voice of the Indian diaspora is heard on a global stage.
Our Normative Work involves organizing a national-level conference, including an inaugural meeting, to bring together key stakeholders and thought leaders. We conduct mass contact programs, sentiment analysis surveys on specific issues, and manage joint stakeholder initiatives. Additionally, we leverage promote popular culture (films, social media, books) to further liberal, secular, and democratic values through documentary/film screening and teach-in sessions
The Academics Collective forms the nucleus of our intellectual campaigns, drawing on the academic publications and popular writings of Indian diaspora scholars teaching in Canadian universities, including those affiliated with South Asia/India Institutes. By organizing these scholars into a cohesive network, we can channel existing research to shape the perspectives of international organizations, legislators, and governments. The collective also hosts an annual academic conference at various Canadian universities, featuring participation from Indian academics and activists
